Drunk Friends Send Injured Baby Bird to Rehab Center Via Uber

An orphaned baby bird was sent to a wildlife rehab center in an Uber after a group of drunk friends found the hurt animal and ordered it a ride, since they were unfit to drive.

On June 29, the group discovered the tiny lesser goldfinch while they were drinking in Utah, Fox News reported. The group told Fox 13 Salt Lake City News that the baby bird fell out of a nearby tree and needed immediate help.

“Impromptu, sitting in some camp chairs, hanging out, having a few drinks when we had a visitor fall out of the sky,” Tim Crowley, a member of the group, told Fox 13 Salt Lake City News. “At first it was a joke, like, ‘Hey, maybe we should just call Uber!'” he added. “Then we were like, ‘No, really. Why not? We’re paying them.'”

Crowley said the first Uber driver cancelled their ride after learning about the bird, however, the second Uber driver, Christy Guynn, accepted the mission to bring the bird to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah, which is located in Ogden, Utah.

“If you’re paying for it, I’m all for it,” Guynn told the group.

About a half hour later, the bird arrived at the wildlife rehab center, safely tucked in a box with leaves. The rehab center wrote a touching comment about the scenario on Facebook, stating that “While we feel we’ve seen it all and can’t be amazed by anything, there is always SOMEONE out there to prove us wrong.”

According to Dalyn Marthaler, the center’s director, the bird, which was nicknamed “Petey,” is recovering well and will most likely be released into the wild in a few weeks.
