Android Hacks Puts xCloud Streaming on Nintendo Switch

I’m still convinced that one of these days Xbox games on Nintendo Switch will just be an official thing. After testing the waters with indie darlings like Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest, Microsoft will fully commit to a platform-agnostic future and just put Xbox Game Pass or xCloud streaming on Nintendo’s machine. I fully expect to soon play a portable version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection Xbox Series X to go alongside a pretty version.

But the future is already here if you’re willing to bend a few rules. Check out xCloud streaming already running on Nintendo Switch thanks to this Android hack.

As demonstrated by Linus Tech Tips, and reported by OnMSFT, the Nintendo Switch is already fully capable of running and xCloud. That’s because Microsoft’s streaming service runs through Android, and since the Switch shares the same mobile Tegra chip that powers many Android devices, it’s a natural fit.

You just have to be willing to void a lot of warranties to get this unofficial collaboration. First you need an older Switch without the security precautions in place to prevent installing a rogue operating system like the LineageOS Android fork. Actually pulling off this exploit is its own messy process we aren’t going to detail here and can’t recommend you try yourself.

But you can enjoy the finished results and watch as these guys unlock an entire other console’s worth of games (at least the limited selection available in the xCloud streaming beta) on Nintendo’s machine.
