Watch: Enormous Sinkhole Swallows Parked Car in Virginia

A massive sinkhole swallowed and damaged a parked car after heavy rains caused a road to collapse in Virginia last week.

On July 4, the enormous sinkhole opened up in Dale City, Virginia, and pulled an unoccupied red car deep into the ground, Fox News reported. Video footage of the incident showed neighbors observing the sinkhole, which managed to consume the vehicle and rip its front bender off in a couple of minutes.

“It’s crazy, we bought our house in 1984 and nothing like this has ever happened,” Marleen Brumbaugh, a resident who lives on the same road where the sinkhole occurred, told Fox5 DC News.

The car, which reportedly belonged to Prince William Medical Transport Service, was completely totaled when crews came to pull it out of the sinkhole on Friday. Prince William County Police Department shared photos of the major automobile operation on Facebook, which show the ruined vehicle being pulled out of the ground. Waggy’s Towing also received a shoutout from Prince William County Police Department for removing the car from the sinkhole.

According to Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) officials, heavy rains damaged the pipe under the road and caused it to stop working, which might have contributed to the sinkhole’s formation, WUSA9 News reported. The VDOT said it could take seven days to repair the road following the sinkhole incident.
