The silly, practical Christmas horror Krampus is actually a really good movie

A Dark Fairy Tale While many horror films seem content with simply scaring the audience, Krampus intends to get you thinking a bit more. The film opens with wild, Black Friday-esque madness that at least visually introduces us to most of Max's immediate family. Shown in slow motion, we really gets to see how commercial and object-obsessed some people have become in regards to a holiday that's supposed to be about togetherness, love and kindness. Like any good fairy tale, there's a moral lesson to be found within the story, but there are also several moments where character's decisions and behavior could have been better and lead to a very different outcome. To go along with the fairy tale theme, the characters become trapped in a snow-covered version of their world where malicious snowmen pop up out of nowhere, children keep disappearing and something hungry keeps burrowing through the snow.
