Some upstate New York residents are not happy after a utility company reportedly ignored their requests to take down an electrocuted, dead squirrel hanging from wires in their neighborhood.
About two weeks ago, the squirrel got electrocuted because it was trying to eat the utility wires, Syracuse.com reported. Annoyed by National Grid’s unresponsiveness, some residents started posting pictures of the animal’s carcass on Facebook and Twitter to get their attention, Fox News noted. Neighbors named the animal Freddie after Curtis Mayfield’s 1972 song, “Freddie’s Dead.”

Finally, on Monday, July 1, National Grid took down the squirrel after it received an inquiry from Syracuse.com. According to a National Grid spokeswoman, the company doesn’t typically remove objects from wires unless they could be threatening to electrical service. However, they were reportedly concerned that the neighbors would hurt themselves if they tried to take down the squirrel.
Day 14 (update) : This is the way the squirrel ends / Not with a bang but a whimper.
