Enter the World of ‘Pokemon: Detective Pikachu’ at SDCC 2019 Pop-Up Activation

For years, countless players have dreamed of living in a Pokemon world. Catching the creatures on Game Boy screens just isn’t enough. We need to see Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle all walking around in our backyards. Pokemon Go became the biggest thing in the world by bringing this fantasy closer to reality. And the recent live-action Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is such an artistic achievement because of how plausible it made Pokemon look and feel in the real world.

Now at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2019, we’ll finally be able to enter the world of Pokemon like never before thanks to the Detective Pikachu fan activation.

In this “immersive walkthrough pop-up” fans will be able to take a tour through a recreation of Ryme City, where humans and Pokemon live in harmony. Admire the “neon cityscape,” hang out at the marketplace, win prizes, and gawk at props from the film. And of course there will be plenty of Pokemon characters walking around to take pictures with. Hopefully Detective Pikachu just dances for ten hours straight.

The activation lasts throughout all of SDCC, starting Wednesday July 17 from 5PM to 7PM. From Thursday through Saturday the hours are 10AM to 7PM. And on Sunday it closes early at 4PM. Forget immersive theme parks based on Harry Potter and Star Wars. Just seal me up inside a Pokemon world. Warner Bros. is displaying a similar Batman activation as well.

For more on Pokemon check out our hands-on impressions of the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield and watch this dark fan film for a Pokemon world I’d rather not see up close and personal.
