‘Death Stranding’ Oozes Onto PC Next Summer

Death Stranding, one of the most… fascinating games of last year, was already slated for a PC release date sometime after its launch on PS4. And now we know that Hideo Kojima’s oil baby parenting simulator is coming to Steam and the Epic Games Store on June 2, 2020. However, if improved performance wasn’t a big enough reason to convince you to double dip, the PC version also features crossover content with one of the most acclaimed PC franchises on all-time: Half-Life. Just in time to celebrate Valve’s revival Half-Life: Alyx.

After Hideo Kojima’s messy breakup with Konami, the industry watched with bated breath to see who his rebound publisher would be. And considering the long history between Metal Gear Solid and PlayStation platforms, no one was surprised to learn that Kojima’s next game, Death Stranding, would be published by Sony. After all, who else would give him the money to cast naked Norman Reedus and oily Mads Mikkelsen holding babies that travel through time rain or whatever.

Death Stranding’s PlayStation 4 release is just days away. However, that’s not the only platform where you can try to tie America back together. Rumors had suggested this for a while, but now it’s official that Death Stranding is coming to PC next summer.

On PC, Death Stranding will be published by 505 Games instead of Sony. At first this puzzled us, but then we realized 505 Games also published Bloodstained. So they have a history of scooping up burned Konami auteurs.

We’re also curious to see how the game performs. Death Stranding runs on Decima, an engine developed by first-party Sony studio Guerilla Games for games like Killzone and Horizon: Zero Dawn. But considering how PC-like the PlayStation 4 already is, we aren’t too worried.

We’re glad more players will have a chance to check out what’s shaping up to be a truly inexplicable (and surely expensive) game. But we do wonder if announcing this PC version now will affect PlayStation 4 sales. With Last of Us Part II delayed to next May, Death Stranding is pretty much the only big PlayStation 4 exclusive for some time. Sony is too busy with the PlayStation 5.

Death Stranding releases on PlayStation 4 on November 8 and on PC in summer 2020. Here are some other games journalists we’d like to see in the game alongside Geoff Keighley and Conan O’Brien.
