At this point, it feels like Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been “releasing” for years. Initially, the compilation bundled together the core numbered Halo games, including a shiny remake of Halo 2, as early software for the fledgling Xbox One in 2014. But that game was riddled with technical issues only ironed out after a long, post-release development process which also added Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach.
And then things got even more complicated last year when we learned Halo: The Master Chief Collection would gradually launch on PC on a game by game basis. We already got the prequel Halo: Reach on Steam and the Windows Store. And now a new listing suggests the seminal console shooter that started it all is also coming back soon.
The first Halo game actually already released on PC back in 2003. But the version we’re talking about here is the enhanced remake Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, originally released in 2011 for Xbox 360 and re-released for Xbox One as part of The Master Chief Collection.
As we said, we already knew that all these Halo games were coming to PC. And we knew it was happening in the order of the story. It just was just a matter of seeing how long we would go between releases. As reported by TrueAchievements, there’s already a new listing for Halo: Combat Evolved on the Windows Store. So it really won’t be long before we’re enjoying the old game with new features like seamlessly toggling between original and remastered visuals and audio.
If we had to guess, we’d say the entire PC Halo collection should be complete before Halo: Infinite launches this holiday on Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Series X. But what about Halo 5?
