An abandoned puppy with a second tail on its forehead was rescued this week in Missouri.
Mac’s Mission, a Missouri-based rescue service, found the fur baby in the streets of Jackson, Mo., with an injury on one of its paws and the unusual appendage on its face, Fox News reported. The rescue group named the dog “Narwhal” after the whale with a canine front tooth that looks like a “tusk.”
“It kind of curls right down under his eyes,” Mac’s Mission’s founder Rochelle Steffen told the PA news agency. “We deal with such unique animals here that we love to let them keep their uniqueness.”
Narwhal was taken to the Mac’s Mission center and examined via X-rays. Imaging showed that the second tail wasn’t connected to organs, however, it will be removed if it starts to impact the pup’s vision, according to Steffen.
“It’s been really good for our itty-bitty rescue to have such a rock star in our midst because all this attention is helping so many of our other dogs,” Steffen added.
“I don’t understand what viral is but my foster mama said my story being viral helps ALL our special needs dogs here at the Mission,” Narwhal “wrote” on Facebook. “You are welcome. I am super excited for being the poster child for ‘special is awesome.’ Sleep tight, k thanks, Narwhally.”
