SpaceX’s bullet-like Starship prototype ruptured during pressurization testing on Nov. 20.
The prototype, which is named Mk-1, experienced the partial explosion at SpaceX’s Boca Chica facility in Texas, BBC.com noted. Video footage of the incident showed rocket components dispersing high in the air and smoke filling the testing area.

SpaceX conducted the test to “pressurize systems to the max” and the company said the “outcome was not completely unexpected.” There were no injuries reported at the scene.
The Mk-1 prototype, which was a test vehicle for SpaceX’s upcoming Starship spacecraft, was supposed to start practice flights after this crucial test. The Mk-1 prototype will be retired following Wednesday’s error and construction on another prototype (Mk-3) will likely start soon.
