Tesla’s Cybertruck has some stiff competition.
Lego Australia this week trolled Elon Musk and his pointy pickup with its own vision for a futuristic vehicle.
“The evolution of the truck is here. Guaranteed shatterproof,” the toy company wrote on Facebook.
The all-plastic rig features a grey Lego brick attached to a four-wheeled platform: Simple, cheap, and easy to make.
Musk last week unveiled the Cybertruck—a Blade Runner-esque wedge of stainless-steel and “unbreakable” glass that already has 250,000 pre-orders.
Despite the fanfare, Tesla’s latest endeavor still has a few kinks to work out, including indestructible windows that can indeed crack.
A majority of reported bookings (so far) are for either the $49,900 dual-motor option (300-mile range, 7,500-pound towing capacity) or $69,900 tri-motor version (500-mile range, 14,000-pound towing capacity).
Fewer than 20 percent chose the single-motor Cybertruck, which starts at $39,900.
Production on the two cheaper models won’t begin until “late 2021,” with the top-end pickup expected to roll out a year later.
Lego’s latest offering*, meanwhile, is currently available to build yourself, costs about $1.33, and comes in any color you want.
* ATV not included
