Thirty-six years ago, Will Byers officially vanished in the Upside Down. Today, fans are celebrating the anniversary of the character’s disappearance on Stranger Things Day.
You may ask, ‘Why would a Netflix show get its own unofficial holiday?’ But, there’s more to this Hawkins-themed celebration.

Nov. 6 is a very important day in the Stranger Things universe. Metro points out that it’s the date when Byers (Noah Schnapp) went missing in Stranger Things Season 1. Byers’ mysterious situation occurred in 1983 and it kickstarted a major investigation into the Upside Down. Soon enough, all the characters in the series started to witness the dangers of this parallel world, including the Mind Flayer.
This year, Netflix created a sweet tribute to the series with a Stranger Things Day video. It shows how Byers’ disappearance led to Stranger Things’ most memorable scenes, including Joyce Byers’ eerie Christmas lights display, Eleven closing the gate, and Starcourt Mall’s secret underground lab.
The streaming service has not provided a premiere date for Stranger Things Season 4 yet, but we can’t wait to see what’s in store for Byers and the rest of the Hawkins gang.
