A creepy lifelike doll and its sketchy nanny tease a dark parenting story in M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant.
The series, which is coming to Apple TV+ in a few weeks, follows two parents who are mourning the loss of their baby. What’s creepy though is the fact they are using a newborn doll to get over their tragic incident…and they hire a sketchy babysitter to take care of it.
At first, viewers may question why the couple would use an eerie baby doll to move on. However, the trailer reveals some sad information: Everyone else seems to know that the doll isn’t real, however, the wife believes her little one is still alive. And of course, the husband fills in the babysitter on the whole ordeal.
As the wife maintains a blissful state, the husband becomes wary of the nanny he’s sharing a personal space with. After telling her that the doll is lifeless, the babysitter insists that “Jericho needs to go for his walk.” (Creepy.) She completely disregards the husband’s story and goes on as if it’s alive.
Strange things start to happen in the couple’s home. The baby monitor goes on and off by itself, storm clouds roll in, and there’s a sense of dread coming around the corner, as people try to conceal the past and dive into the present.
Servant, which stars Toby Kebbell, Lauren Ambrose, Nell Tiger Free, and Rupert Grint, premieres on Apple TV+ on Nov. 28.
