Let’s make one thing perfectly clear. Video games can be, should be, and are enjoyed by players of all genders. But a lot of gamers are dudes, let’s be real. And this month a lot of men are raising awareness and funds for men’s health by growing mustaches for Movember. For all things Movember, including grooming tips and healthy ways of expressing masculinity, you should check out our brother site AskMen.
But this particularly piece of Movember news just made so much sense for Geek. Scuf Gaming is teaming up with top streamers for Movember charities.
For #SCUFMO (was there not a SCUF/SCRUFF joke they could’ve made?) the controller manufacturer is partnering with gaming celebrities to put on live streams raising awareness for physical as well as mental health issues affecting men. So not just prostate cancer but also harmful patriarchal cultural norms that prevents men from expressing themselves, toxic attitudes especially and unfortunately prevalent among men in the online gaming world.
The streamers helping to fight back include Censor, Syndicate, Iain Stirling, and Nepenthez. You’ll still be watching them play video games, but now you can watch them play video games and donate to a worthy cause at the same time.
“We are very happy to have Scuf Gaming on board again this year,” said Justin Coughlin (JC), spokesperson for the Movember Foundation in a statement. “We believe Scuf Gaming’s commitment to the mental and physical health of the gaming community makes them a perfect fit for the charity. The personality of their brand complements ours.”
During the lucrative shopping month of November, Scuf will donate five percent of controller sales to Movember charities. And if you want to know our thoughts on those controllers read our reviews of the SCUF Prestige and the SCUF Vantage.
