Embrace Death in ‘Apex Legends’ Season 4

It’s been about a year since EA and Respawn launched Apex Legends basically out of nowhere. The Titanfall spin-off soon took its place alongside other smash hit battle royale games like Fortnite and PUBG with its charming characters and smart gameplay tweaks to the genre. Being free also helps.

But for better or worse, one thing that defines massive multiplayer games as a service like this is that they can never rest on past successes. They have to keep updating with content and battle passes lest they start bleeding the players that make up their life blood. Apex Legends Season 4, Assimilation, is available now. Here’s what you can expect.

In a game all about mastering a limited set of characters, any new faces are automatically a big deal. The latest Legend is Revenant, a former human hitman turned into some kind of robot hitman, and he’s pretty pissed about it. His Terminator body lets him scramble up walls, negate enemy abilities, and protect teammates from death. Battle royale games as a genre feature endless amounts of random death. So it’s fun to see a character who just leans into that nihilism.

Check out Revenant’s stylish intro movie.

As with any other battle pass, Assimilation also features plenty of shiny new guns and character skins to grab if you pay for the right loot box. So here’s another video if you want to at least see what those look like if you aren’t lucky or wealthy enough to unlock them yourself. Even if you don’t want to splurge you can also enjoy new changes to the map like huge tower The Planet Harvester or the deep fissure through Capitol City.
