‘No Man’s Sky’ Gets Gooey, Organic Space Ships

No Man’s Sky has gone through a pretty wild arc. The vague first teaser set expectations sky high, seemingly promising a procedurally generated space exploration game where literally anything was possible. Since that was literally impossible, the eventual release could only disappoint. Major missing features didn’t help. But then later substantial free updates introduced exciting functionality like base-building, MMO-esque online multiplayer, and even VR support. At this point if you still care about No Man’s Sky it’s probably because you’re legitimately satisfied with it.

So let’s get weird. Let’s fly some living space ships.

Between cell phones made of fake flesh and concept cars ripped from the world of James Cameron’s Avatar, everyone seems to be about organic tech these days. Did we all finally get around to watching Existenz? Whatever the reason, No Man’s Sky is joining the craze of adding technology that looks warm and soft to the touch.

Tentacle cockpits! I don’t know much about No Man’s Sky lore, but this trailer seems to suggest that there will be some kind of backstory to these flying fleshy behemoths. Meanwhile, from a gameplay standpoint, the living ships do more than just add a wild new aesthetic to your potential vehicle hangar. You actually raise the ships from birth, initially hatching them from eggs. Presumably how you treat your baby spaceship will influence its eventual characteristics. Just keep encouraging it to go fast.
