October is not the only month for cool moon views or planet appearances: The Draconid and Southern Taurid meteor showers are hitting the night sky this week.
These back-to-back meteor showers will give you the chance to see some gorgeous shooting stars in your area from Tuesday, October 8 to Thursday, October 10, WTHR reported. Grab your telescope, put on a jacket, and head outside to spot the Draconids and the Southern Taurids.
The Draconids will peak on the evening of Tuesday, October 8 into Wednesday, October 9. With only roughly 10 meteors per hour, the Draconids are considered a minor meteor shower. However, there have been occasions, including last year, where the Draconids filled the sky with hundreds of meteors.
This starry sight will be best to view before midnight on October 8. Stargazers will want to look for meteors in areas of the sky away from the moon, since it will take up most of the sky at night.

The Southern Taurids follow the Draconids. This meteor shower will peak Wednesday, October 9 into Thursday, October 10. The Southern Taurids are also considered a minor meteor shower, but meteors will not be the only sight to take in: The American Meteor Society says the Taurids are “rich in fireballs.”
If you want to catch a view of the Southern Taurids, also note visibility conditions: The moon will be 87 percent full during this time, so you’ll want to direct your gaze away from the illuminated lunar surface.
