Halloween is around the corner, but we will have to wait a few months for The Grudge reboot, which is coming to theaters next year.
A paranormal curse returns in The Grudge and this time, it’s coming for those who live in our modern-day world. Based on the film Ju-On: The Grudge written and directed by Takashi Shimizu, the film has a completely different plot from The Grudge, which came out in the early ’00s. It follows a detective who learns about a “haunted” property and is tasked to investigate the bizarre and disturbing events that happen there.
In the trailer, a realtor explores the creepy home, he’s drawn to a bathtub with black water. Within seconds, he’s touched by some creature-like being and thrown back. We don’t know what the heck this thing is, but it’s horrifying and can crawl up walls.
The jump scares get even better when this entity follows the detective to her house, where she watches it crawl under her son’s bed and hang out there. When the child asks “What’s wrong, mommy?” she says they need to get out, except, the spirit jumps in between them.
A final shot of a guy in a shower and the ghost’s hands randomly sprouting from his head is a chilling cliffhanger for what’s to come.
The Grudge, which stars Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver, is coming to theaters on Jan. 3.
