A fisherman recently made a startling discovery when he spotted a tiny bobcat struggling to stay afloat in a Montana lake.
Brett Hereford was fishing with his family on Flathead Lake, which is located near Rollins, Montana, on October 6, Fox News reported. While spending time on the lake, the group noticed a bobcat kitten “thrashing around” in the water and quickly made moves to rescue it.
Bob, Brett’s dad, posted footage of the kitty rescue on Facebook, which showed the feisty animal’s behavior the moment they caught it. According to Bob, Brett carefully scooped the bobcat kitten into the fishing net to prevent it from drowning. Bob and Brett then brought the creature back to shore, where it was released into the wild.
The family doesn’t know how the baby bobcat managed to get in the water, however, it’s not an uncommon occurrence. Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribe fishery specialist Cindy Mack told KRTV that bobcats sometimes swim close to shore, but this bobcat managed to get into an unsafe situation.
