Instagram is giving users more control over the data they share with third-party apps.
Manage connections to external services via Settings > Security > Apps and Websites, where you’ll find the option to remove any third-party programs linked to your account.
Once disconnected, those firms will no longer have access to new data.
By pairing a profile with third-party applications and websites, you’re granting access to information like your username and photos, as well as captions, media types, permalinks, and timestamps.
Which, as you can imagine, presents a security risk, particularly for minors. Some platforms ban the use of third-party apps for just that reason.

But in the interest of transparency, the social network is taking steps to make surveillance more user-friendly.
“To ensure you know what specific data third parties are requesting from you, we’re also introducing an updated authorization screen that lists all the information the third party is requesting to access,” according to an Instagram blog post.
The format—similar to “Log In With Facebook”—provides a brief overview of what the app is asking for.
Users have the option to “cancel” or “authorize” access directly.
These updates, rolling out of the next six months, will “ultimately allow people to have more control over the data they share with third-party services,” the blog said.
