British Illustrator Designs Awesome Star Wars Museum Mock-Up

Star Wars is no stranger to museums. The series regularly serves as inspiration for seasonal exhibits at museums like New York’s Rubin Museum of Art or the Denver Art Museum, and even parts of Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge theme park lands are similar to museum displays. But for such a pivotal series to the history of film, Star Wars doesn’t yet have a museum dedicated fully to itself. Even George Lucas’ in-construction Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has a wider subject matter beyond just Star Wars. But thanks to British illustrator Alistair Williams, we now have an idea of what a dedicated Star Wars Museum would look like.

On December 9, Williams posted an art piece to his Twitter account titled “Museum of the Skywalkers.” Here, we see a mock-up of a potential Star Wars museum, which takes visitors through the props and important scenes of the Star Wars films in chronological order.

We start on the first floor, where Qui-Gon and Padmé meet a young Anakin Skywalker and his mother, Shmi Skywalker, outside the museum entrance. The floor then shows off key Episode 1 props, like Anakin’s podracer, as well as core moments, like Yoda training Anakin for the first time. After that, we move on to the second floor, where the Episode 2 exhibits include Anakin and Padmé having dinner as well as Anakin’s first duel with Count Dooku. Revenge of the Sith gets two floors, with one showing off the majority of the film and the other wholly dedicated to the creation of Darth Vader and the birth of the Skywalker twins.

After that, we move onto the original trilogy, with Episodes 4, 5, and 6 being represented in the same way, right down to Return of the Jedi having two floors rather than one. The new trilogy follows, with a special twist for The Rise of Skywalker. As we don’t yet know Episode 9’s story yet, it takes over the museums ceiling rather than its own couple of floors. Here, prospective visitors could walk into a massive exhibit of Rey and Kylo Ren doing battle, complete with red and blue fire effects.

This museum mock-up has received high praise since, with the official Star Wars Twitter account tweeting the following gif at Williams:

The piece is also the latest in Williams’ “Museum of” series, which has also covered various series across the MCU. Additionally, Williams has similar illustrations for Joker, Alien, Spider-Verse, and even real-world cities like Lisbon, though they aren’t organized as museum mock-ups. Similarly, he’s also previously covered Star Wars under his “Sci-Sfi Stories” series.

With a new movie set to release soon and The Mandalorian giving fans fresh content every Friday, right now is a productive time in Star Wars fan art. Williams announced that the Museum of the Skywalkers was “to be continued” in his original tweet. Whether this means that he plans to add onto the illustration once Episode 9 hits theaters, or whether he’s pointing out that the Star Wars series as a whole is still going strong, remains to be seen.
