Critics’ reviews are rolling in for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and most are saying it’s a mediocre end to the Skywalker saga.

The Rise of Skywalker, which hits theaters on Dec. 20, is currently the second-worst ranked Star Wars movie on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has a Tomatometer score of 58 percent, which is slightly higher than critics’ score for Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker suffers from a frustrating lack of imagination, but concludes this beloved saga with fan-focused devotion,” says the Critics Consensus on Rotten Tomatoes.

Some critics say the movie “earns much of its affection with cameos, callbacks, and other candy,” while others say it’s a “distinctly unsatisfying conclusion.”

Twitter reactions were also mixed, and many viewers pointed out that there was a lot of “fan service” but good moments in The Rise of Skywalker.

Little is known about The Rise of Skywalker’s plot, but a Rotten Tomatoes synopsis reveals that it will be focused on Rey’s journey and that “no one is ever really gone.” Daisy Ridley also hinted that fans may witness more tension between Rey and Kylo Ren (and trailers show them fighting on what look like the remains of a Death Star).

Audience reviews are not available yet, but it will be interesting to see their opinions about The Rise of Skywalker.
