If we’ve learned anything from Star Wars over the last twenty years or so, it’s that it’s never really over. Given this, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise to find that the massive adidas and Star Wars collaboration that garnered so much heat over the course of the lead-up to Star Wars Season still has a little something left in the tank.
Originally it was announced that the third capsule of the collaboration, the “Character Pack,” would be the grand finale of 2019’s Star Wars output for the brand – its Rise of Skywalker, if you will (I’ll hold for applause). But it looks like there’s one more drop in store for fans of adidas and Star Wars.

On Dec. 20, adidas will be releasing their Speedfactory AM4 x Star Wars ‘The Force’ sneaker. If this looks familiar, it may be because you recognize the silhouette from a much-hyped nerdy release earlier this year, that being the Jen Bartel Captain Marvel sneakers that dropped back in March. This time around, the Speedfactory AM4 has been modified with art from old-school Star Wars comic books, each sneaker paying homage to a different character.
The right shoe features Darth Vader and general dark-side energy, with a red three stripes logo and the character’s name embossed in the heel guard. The character is visible in the comic panels as is the phrase, “Come to the dark side!” on the side.
Meanwhile, the left shoe mismatches, featuring Luke in Vader’s place. This one has, as a whole, a lighter color scheme to it. Appropriate, given that it pays homage to the light side of the Force. Jedi legend Luke Skywalker adorns the shoe, as does his name on the inner heel guard. Both shoes feature the Star Wars logo on the outer heel guard.
Mismatched shoes are a bold look, so if you’re finding yourself intimidated by them don’t worry – you aren’t alone. Still, there’s a certain art and balance to this particular pair that we can’t help but find impressive. These have been dubbed “The Force” after all. The Force is all about balance, darkness and light in perfect harmony. It’s an inspired touch to have a shoe focusing on the light and one on the dark, and that they’re tied together by the father and son who brought balance to the galaxy (until that Kylo Ren guy came along, that is).
The adidas Speedfactory AM4 x Star Wars “The Force” goes on sale Dec. 20 on the adidas website and in Foot Locker locations nationwide.
