For once we’re in a bit of a Forza dry spell as Microsoft paused the annual racing series surely to get ready for a next-gen launch title next year. But the open-world automobile majesty of 2018’s Forza Horizon 4 is more than expansive enough for multiple years of fun. And fortunately we keep getting nifty new content like a mode that turns the beautiful racer into an even more beautiful Lego car world.
So what’s next for Forza Horizon 4? How about a racing battle royale mode? Check out this first trailer for “The Eliminator.”
Battle royale games don’t have to be shooters like Fortnite and PUBG and Apex Legends. Heck, I think they’re better (or at least more creative) when they find reasons to pit dozens of players against each other that have nothing to do with guns. Tetris 99 might be my Game of the Year.
“The Eliminator” drops this same concept into Forza Horizon 4’s online multiplayer open world. 72 players driver around the massive English countryside, racing to knock each other out at upgrade from scrub cars to better racing behemoths. Initially, randomly generated races will pop up all across the map similar to the countless skirmishes you find yourself in when playing other battle royale games. However, as the circle closes in and the players dwindle, eventually all the survivors will be summoned for a final test of speed where the winner takes all.
“The Eliminator” battle royale mode comes to Forza Horizon 4 for free on December 12. For more on Forza Horizon 4 watch us play the game while unboxing some sweet Fast and Furious toy cars.
