It’s been more than twenty years since Harry Potter’s trip to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy changed pop culture forever. And readers are still jonesing for adventures of young students in magical schools. You know what else readers are still jonesing for? Marvel superheroes. So let’s just kill two phoenixes with one stone.
Check out this first trailer for Strange Academy, an upcoming Marvel comic book series about students attending Doctor Strange’s magic school.
From writer Skottie Young and artist Humberto Ramos, Strange Academy’s premise is so immediately appealing you wonder why it took this long. One of Marvel’s most popular franchises revolves around a school of young heroes guided by a wise mentor. So why not just take Professor X and the X-Men and replace the mutants with magic users instead? Alongside Doctor Strange, it looks like we can expect appearances from Scarlet Witch, Magik, Brother Voodoo, and more.
But the real stars of the book will be the young new characters, casting spells and falling in love and getting into trouble in the mystical hidden side of the New Orleans French Quarter. These characters draw upon Marvel’s deep magic lore. There will be an Asgardian student. And I already love this flaming little pumpkin-headed kid.
Strange Academy’s first issue hits shelves in March 2020. And not to get too ahead of ourselves, but don’t be surprised if you see Benedict Cumberbatch slinging back his cape and writing some of Doctor Strange’s trademark nonsense on a chalkboard in a Disney+ show someday soon. He really is my Marvel hero academia
