In our These Are the Games You Should Check Out in January 2020 piece, I said it was good that January was slow because of the big titles releasing in February. Thanks to a slew of game delays, February’s game offerings aren’t nearly as impressive as they were before.
While February lacks heavy hitters, there’s still some stuff worth checking out. Chief among these is PS4 exclusive Dreams, which is the only legitimately new game on this list. Others include updates like Street Fighter V: Champion Edition and remasters/remakes of Bayonetta, Vanquish, Mega Man Zero, and Devil May Cry 3.
I’d say to look forward to March’s games, but that month was also hollowed out thanks to delays. If you’re like me, you likely have a sizable backlog to keep you entertained until titles actually start dropping.
Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4
Release date: February 14
Since its rocky launch, Street Fighter V has gone on to become one of this generation’s best fighting games. As is typical for the series, Capcom has released numerous updates and enhanced editions of the original title. All of this coalesces with Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. Containing 40 characters, 34 stages, hundreds of costumes, and nearly every bit of DLC released since launch, this is the definitive version of SFV. If you’ve missed out or lapsed on Street Fighter V, now is the time to step back into the dojo.

Dreams
Platform: PlayStation 4
Release date: February 14
Media Molecule’s Dreams has been in early access for what feels like years. During that time we’ve seen users create all sorts of unique levels. My personal favorites are ones that recreate other games. One user made their own take on WipeOut while another created a version of P.T. (Silent Hills). Media Molecule has always made “Play, Create, Share” a core tenant of their games. Dreams is the ultimate culmination of that philosophy. Considering the popularity of games like Minecraft, I can see Dreams being a huge hit on PS4.
You can pre-order Dreams on Amazon.
Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One
Release date: February 18
Bayonetta and Vanquish are two of the finest titles released by Platinum Games and the ones that cemented them as the premier action game studio. It’s fitting that the company would release these seminal works in the form of the Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle. The main draw here is the fact you can now play these awesome games on current-gen systems. Higher resolutions and framerates will make the titles look and play better than ever. As a huge fan of both, I can’t wait to get my hands on this collection.
You can pre-order Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle on Amazon.
Darksiders Genesis
Platforms: PS4, Switch, Xbox One
Release date: February 14
Darksiders Genesis originally came out on Google Stadia in December 2019. Now it’s coming to platforms people actually play on. Like I wrote in our December games list, Darksiders Genesis is a top-down hack-and-slasher in the vein of Diablo. Playing as Horseman Strife, players fight through endless enemy waves while scouring levels for rare loot. This isn’t the typical Darksiders experience but it’s still nice to get a new entry in the series. Those looking for a Diablo fix will find a lot to like here.
You can pre-order Darksiders Genesis on Amazon.
Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release date: January 21
Capcom has done a fantastic job of re-releasing its various Mega Man games in recent years. Now, the company is set to drop yet another compilation: the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection. This game is actually an updated port released on the Nintendo DS back in 2010, only with graphics suitable for modern consoles. These games have practically vanished from public consciousness, which makes this a great collection for those who missed out the first time around.
You can pre-order Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection on Amazon.
Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition
Platform: Switch
Release date: February 20
Devil May Cry 3 is still widely considered the best entry in Capcom’s beloved hack-n-slash franchise. We’ve seen numerous ports over the years but this month’s Switch-exclusive Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is arguably the definitive version of the game. The main reason why this eclipses previous versions is the ability to swap weapons and fighting styles mid-battle similar to Devil May Cry 5. If you’re familiar with the original, then you’ll know this fundamentally changes the flow of combat. I can already see hardcore DMC3 players frothing at the mouth thinking about all the new combos they can experiment with.
You can pre-order Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition on the Nintendo eShop.
