Adam Driver returned to host Saturday Night Live over the weekend, reprising his role as undercover boss Kylo Ren.
During the actor’s first appearance on the sketch show in 2016, we saw his Star Wars character go incognito as Matt, a radar technician, at Starkiller Base.
The ill-tempered, awkward, bleach-haired spy mingles with his employees, force choking a stormtrooper and killing a newly promoted superior officer.
“I had a blast today,” he says in a closing clip. “I really learned a lot, and people are gonna love the new me.”
But has anything actually changed in the last three years?
In a special Undercover Boss: Where Are They Now spoof, Ren takes another stab at the covert mission.
“I’ll say it: I haven’t been the best boss lately,” the Supreme Leader of the First Order admits. “I’ve been a little distracted by some … personal drama.”
To recap: After dropping his disguise as radar technician Matt, Ren killed his father, cut his mentor in half, fired upon his mother’s spacecraft, and is obsessed with finding Jedi Rey.
Putting all that aside for the sake of his autocratic military dictatorship, Kylo once again dons a wig to go undercover—this time as Randy the intern.
Bullied by stormtroopers, outwitted by droids, and demeaned by an admiral whose order for a blue milk with sarlacc creamer Ren messes up, he quickly learns that grunt work blows.
Driver’s intensity, humorlessness, and misplaced uses of “OK, boomer” make for a hilarious three-and-a-half minutes.
“He aggressed me,” one of the fellow interns whispers about an encounter with Kylo Ren. “He aggressed me.”
An encounter with a female tie fighter pilot hopeful, whose dreams rely on a direct order from the Supreme Leader, helps soften Ren.
“The culture here needs to change,” he deadpans. “Everybody deserves a shot. If I can be a small part of that change, I will.”
When the woman tells him that, “Pfft, I wanna fly like Luke Skywalker,” she gets a lightsaber to the chest.
“I made four new friends, and only killed one of them,” Kylo boasts, giving a clumsy thumbs up and a twitch of a smile.
