Is the Catkind out of the bag?
Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker told Entertainment Weekly this week that “Yes, I’m doing another season.”
“That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say,” she admitted. “But it’s unhelpful for me to say [I don’t know] because it would be a massive lie.”
In an interview with the magazine, the 37-year-old actor explained how being the first woman to play the titular time traveler has changed her life.
“I wear a baseball cap on the tube or on the subway,” Whittaker quipped. “But really, my life has changed in a wonderful sense.
“I’ve got a massive social life now,” she said, describing her followers as “the people that work in our very tight-knit family in Cardiff” where the show is filmed, and “a load of Whovians who are lovely to you when you walk past them.”
The long-running BBC program returned on New Year’s Day with a festive twist: Sacha Dhawan as the latest incarnation of the Doctor’s frenemy, evil Time Lord the Master.
“I absolutely loved the work that we got to do together,” Whittaker said of her new co-star, who we can expect to return later this season. “When you have chemistry with your ultimate villain, it’s brilliant.”
Despite criticism from pouty fans over the space-and-time-travelling alien’s sex change, folks still turned up and tuned in to see what a new lead actor would bring to the series.
Whittaker’s 2018 debut as the Thirteenth Doctor marked the highest-ever Doctor Who series launch since its return in 2005.
As of last Sunday, she’s headlined 15 episodes, with six more on the way this year.
“I absolutely adore it,” Whittaker said of her time as the infamous Doctor. “At some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it’s not yet. I’m clinging on tight.”
Doctor Who airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on BBC America.
