Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who helmed Captain Marvel, will not be back for the film, but they’ll most likely work on other Marvel Universe projects. Marvel is currently on the hunt for a female filmmaker to helm Captain Marvel 2’s creative team.
Plot details are limited on Captain Marvel 2, but sources said it won’t be set in the 90s. Instead, the movie will take place in present times. It’s unclear what mission Carol Danvers will tackle next.
Captain Marvel, which starred Brie Larson as the famous heroine, racked up over $1.1 billion in worldwide box office sales last year. Despite receiving some negative comments from trolls, the film was praised by critics and received a 78 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
