NASA’s Mars 2020 rover is being “observed” by a bizarre mannequin in the lab.
The agency is currently live-streaming the rover’s construction process and Space.com pointed out a random “visitor” at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory: a strange figure in a bunny suit that doesn’t quite fit in with the other technicians.
Andrew Good, a media representative for NASA JPL, responded to Space.com’s inquiry about the “bunny suit figure.” Turns out his name is “High Bay Bob,” a local celebrity at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

The keep a mannekin in one of the clean rooms at JPL, just in case there’s no one around when a tour comes by. Meet High Bay Bob. 😊 pic.twitter.com/pwO4VReK1D

The mannequin, which was dressed up in a suit, was added to the space to keep technicians company. The team there is making adjustments to the rover and preparing it for its next stop: NASA’s Kennedy Space Center near Orlando, Florida.

High Bay Bob isn’t present in the live-stream right now, but maybe he will return for the rover’s upcoming building and testing operations.
