Move over, Netflix: Peacock, NBC’s new streaming service, arrives later this year and it’s offering a variety of subscription tiers for your binge-watching budget.
NBCUniversal showed off Peacock to investors on Thursday, revealing launch date details and its eye-catching Peacock Free option, which offers free (yes, free) TV shows and movies to stream.
The streaming market is already crowded (hello Hulu, Disney+, and CBS All Access), but Peacock does have some key advantages over competitors. We break down all the information for you here.
When Is Peacock Launching in the US?
Peacock is launching is the U.S. on April 15 for Flex and Comcast X1 customers. Cox cable and Comcast subscribers will also get free access to one of Peacock’s premium subscription tiers. (More on that below…)
Not subscribing to any of the services above? You’ll have to wait until July 15 to access streaming content on Peacock.
How Much Will It Cost?

One benefit of Peacock is all the pricing options: You can watch content for free and there’s an affordable tier of subscriptions available for those who don’t want to deal with ads.
There are three types of subscriptions available: Peacock Free, which offers some programming without a fee, a complete version with ads that’s free for Comcast customers and $4.99 per month for non-customers, and Peacock Premium, a $10 per month option that’s ad-free and open to anyone interested in the service.
Peacock Free
With more than 7,500 hours of programming, Peacock Free gives you next day access to classic series, curated daily news, sports broadcasts, and popular movies. You will have to deal with ads, but having the option to not pay for a subscription is a steal, especially since other services can cost $6 or more per month.
Peacock Premium
Even though Peacock Free is the most affordable streaming option, Peacock Premium comes with additional perks, including early access to popular late-night shows and live sports.
Don’t want to wait until 11:35 p.m. ET to watch The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon? Peacock Premium will allow you to watch the show at 8 p.m. ET earlier in the day, so you can eat dinner, catch up on celebrity gossip, and head to bed at a reasonable time.
Sports programming is another plus: Unlike other subscription services, Peacock Premium will let you watch live games. Non-televised soccer games will be available to watch starting in August, so you can cheer on your favorite team from the comfort of your own couch.
