My cat (RIP Pumpkin) loved three things: Lounging in the sun, eating expensive food, and endless strokes. She never showed a shred of interest in music.
But I think she would have enjoyed the Pet Playlist Spotify curated for her.*
Most pet owners believe their furry (or feathered/scaly) friends like music—preferably classical or soft rock, according to a Spotify survey.
A majority of respondents said the melodies help boost animals’ happiness, relieve stress, and provide companionship.
“That being said, we created a unique experience to help you craft the pawfect algorithmically generated playlist for you and your pet to enjoy together,” the streaming service wrote in a blog announcement.
Visit spotify.com/pets for a playlist you can share with your dog, cat, hamster, bird, or iguana.
You’ll first have to answer a few questions about said animal: Are they relaxed or energetic, shy or friendly, apathetic or curious?
“Select which trait most aligns with your pet’s personality,” Spotify urged. “It will help us pick the playlist vibe.”

Add an optional name and image, let the data crunch, then grab your domesticated animal and dance the night away.
“While music for pets isn’t an exact science, we consulted with experts in the pet industry for the best approximation for what might work best for our featured animals,” the site’s FAQ said.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to accommodate every species. Don’t see your beastie listed? Try one of the current playlist options, anyway.
“You may find your rabbit really likes hamster music,” Spotify suggested.
Popular pets like goldfish, tarantulas, and snakes are not included “because they don’t have ears.”
Each playlist comes with a personalized share card featuring a handful of included artists and a cover photo, so you can show off your pet’s good taste on social media.

* Yes, my cat is dead. Yes, I still answers the questions and allowed an algorithm to create a 30-song setlist for her.
