Bessemer, a small city in Michigan, is investing in a new gadget to crack down on potent marijuana plants.
The town recently voted to spend around $3,400 on the Nasal Ranger, a field olfactometer manufactured by St. Croix Sensory that can sniff out smelly weed.
“The city of Bessemer stinks. You can smell marijuana everywhere,” Council Member Linda Nelson said at a recent meeting. “We’ve got people who can’t sit in their backyard because the smell from their neighbor is so bad.”
This is where the Nasal Ranger comes into play: The device can measure and quantify odor strength in the ambient air, according to the product’s webpage. It can notify users about the strength of the oder they are trying to sniff out, such as pot.
Police officers will also be trained on the device, so they can help regulate neighbors’ “weed farms” efficiently and properly fine individuals who don’t comply with the law.
