Watch the First Trailer for Super Nintendo World Theme Park

Theme parks take a long time to make. You literally have to build a functioning little community here in the real world. When Nintendo announced it was partnering with Universal Studios to build new immersive amusement parks based on its gaming icons, we listed some attractions we would like to see. And that list is over three years old.

However, the first flagship location of Super Nintendo World is finally about to open in Japan later this year, just in time for the Olympics when the country is on display to the world. Check out this first trailer.

I don’t know about you, but when I think of Nintendo I think of music by Galantis and Charli XCX. Advertising an unfinished amusement park sure is a tricky proposition. You have to convey the fun of rides that aren’t built. So Nintendo just opts for something conceptual. Check out these happy people hopping around the Mushroom Kingdom. Going to this theme park will be like entering a video game, so let’s just show that. It reminds me of the Super Mario Run trailer when it comes to mainstream appeal.

However, we do know some concrete details about Super Nintendo World. Leaked photos of buildings under construction really do make it seem as if the park will be a giant accurate recreation of Mario’s universe. The park also doesn’t forget Nintendo’s digital gaming roots. By syncing up your mobile device, attendees will be able to take on very video game-esque challenges in the park itself. Its Nintendo and Universal’s answer to building your own Harry Potter wand or Star Wars lightsaber. We’re sure the Nintendo Switch will also factor in.

Super Nintendo World launches in Japan this year and will come to Universal Studios parks in Hollywood, Orlando, and Singapore after that.
