Ever wonder what it’d be like getting a wake-up call from Jules Winnfield? Or being sung happy birthday by Shaft? Or hearing the weather forecast from Frozone?
How about playing rock paper scissors with Nick Fury?
Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson is the first celebrity to lend his distinctive voice to Alexa-enabled smart speakers.
And the best part is, you can opt for “cursing” mode to enjoy the full Sam Jackson experience.
Just say, “Alexa, introduce me to Samuel L. Jackson,” then choose the clean or explicit version. (Visit the Alexa app settings menu to toggle between the two.)
Mr. Jackson doesn’t work for free, though: The “mature” skill costs 99 cents.
“Just ask and Sam will give you the weather, play your favorite music, tell jokes, and more,” the Amazon product page said.
He can help set a time or serenade you with a song; users can get to know the Oscar-nominated actor better by asking about his interests and career.
“Although he can do a lot,” Amazon said, “Sam won’t be able to help with shopping, lists, reminders, or skills.”
This may be Alexa’s first time taking a backseat. But Google has been testing VIP voices since April, first with singer/songwriter John Legend, and more recently actress/writer/director/producer Issa Rae (Insecure).
“Cameo voices on the Assistant have been one of the top requests we’ve heard from you,” Manuel Bronstein, VP of product for Google Assistant, said last year.
