Lyft is expanding its transportation empire to include rental cars.
Last year, the app broadened its ride options to include bicycles, scooters, and public transit routes.
Now, customers can hire a car with similar ease.
Available for “select users” in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, Lyft Rentals gives folks the flexibility to rent a vehicle for weekend getaways, business trips, or even to run errands.
“Best of all? You can set everything up in the Lyft app,” the company boasted in a blog post. “Just tap the key icon on the home screen to start your reservation. No rental counter required.”
The process is simple: Reserve your car (enter your destination and dates, choose an available vehicle), get a Lyft to the pick-up location*, collect keys from the lot concierge, and be on your way.
Rent Monday through Thursday (not counting federal holidays) for discounted base rental rates.
Once back from your road trip or finished with moving day, return the car (don’t forget to lock up and drop off the keys) and snag another Lyft home*.
“Drive as far as you want—you get unlimited miles, and we don’t charge mileage fees,” the company confirmed.
Plus, there’s “no need to fill up if you don’t have time—we’ll do that for you and will only charge the local market price.”
Vehicles come equipped with Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and phone chargers. Users can also choose free add-ons like car seats, tire chains, and ski racks—the latter now an option for Uber riders, as well.
UberSKI returns to Colorado (Denver, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, most Summit and Eagle County resorts) this season, allowing customers to request a ride equipped with a ski rack or truck bed to carry their cold-weather gear.
Every trip includes an $8 pickup fee (on top of normal uberX rates).
* Lyft’s door-to-door service includes a $20 ride credit to and from your rental.
