We still think Disney+ is one of the better streaming TV services you can subscribe to, but that’s mostly on the strength of Disney’s ridiculous back catalog of content. When it comes to original movies and shows, right now it’s a tougher sell. The Mandalorian just wrapped up its first season, bringing a fine version of live-action Star Wars to TV. And stuff like the new High School Musical and that Anna Kendrick Santa Claus thing appeal to Disney fans of a different stripe.
Going into 2020 though, if Disney+ wants to compete with Netflix (which seems to drop killer new original shows every other week) it needs to get its #brands out there sooner rather than later. We already knew that new TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe were on tap for Disney+, but now they’re coming even faster than we thought.

Initially, the only MCU show slated for Disney+ in 2020 was The Falcon and The Winter Soldier coming this fall. And presumably that Captain America sidekick team-up will be the first MCU Disney+ show out of the gate. However, to ring in the new year Disney tweeted that WandaVision is also moving up from its original 2021 release date into 2020. Considering Wanda’s ability to manipulate reality, we should’ve realized time is no obstacle for her.
Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision is apparently about the sad superhero creating an alternate sitcom-esque reality where she can live with her dead robot lover. The six-episode show will also tie into the upcoming movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness still planned for May 2021. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany star, Kat Dennings and Randall reprise their Marvel side roles, and Teyonah Harris and Kathryn Hahn rounds out the cast.
Other MCU Disney+ shows for 2021 and beyond include What If?, Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.
