Oscar 2020 nominations are finally here and they’re receiving mixed responses from the greater community.
Leading the pack is Joker, which was nominated for 11 Academy Awards on Monday. Other movies that each received 10 Oscar nominations included The Irishman, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, and 1917.
Parasite, the buzzy film directed by Bong Joon-Ho, was also a favorite of The Academy: It received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best International Feature Film.

The Academy’s Oscar nominations are not pleasing everyone though: Many people called out the organization for failing to recognize other critically-acclaimed movies, including Hustlers, The Farewell, and Uncut Gems.

Female directors were also shut out of the 2020 Oscar nominations: Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), and Lulu Wang (The Farewell) were not featured under the Best Director category.
