Black Panther crashed onto the comics scene back in 1966, before the Black Panther movement. Created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, Black Panther premiered in Fantastic Four #52 where he single-handedly defeats every team member as a test before they work together.
From there, Black Panther has been part of the Avengers, as well as having long-running solo titles, and of course being king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda. He’s enjoyed multiple classic comic runs by creators including Don McGregor, Rich Buckler, Gil Kane, Christopher Priest, Mark Texeira, and more recently by T-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze.
After being a runaway fan favorite in the movie Captain America: Civil War, nothing has been the same since the release of ground-breaking, Afro-futuristic, Academy Award-nominated Black Panther solo film.
