Exclusive ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Clip to Debut in ‘Fortnite’

Late last month, we wrote about how The Mandalorian is using Fortnite’s Unreal Engine 4 to speed up and improve its filmmaking process. Now, Fortnite is returning the favor by bringing Star Wars into its game world by airing an exclusive Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker scene six days before the film opens.

The Fortnite team announced on December 7 that Risky Reels, the game’s drive-in theater, will premiere a scene from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this weekend, on December 14, at 2:00 PM EST. Director J.J. Abrams is also set to make an appearance, and “doors will open” at 1:30 PM.

This isn’t Fortnite’s first collab with Star Wars, as the game added a Stormtrooper skin to its premium wardrobe last month, which was available both in the item shop and also as a freebie for players who purchased Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

The game has also previously teamed up with Disney for a short Ralph Breaks the Internet crossover clip, where Ralph briefly runs across Risky Reel’s projector screen before waving at the audience. The Rise of Skywalker event, of course, will be at a much larger scale.

Fortnite’s map has undergone several iterations since launch. To make sure you don’t lose your way as you head to the event, be sure to head to Risky Reel’s current location in the map’s Northeast corner. And don’t forget to wear your stormtrooper cosplay.

From Marvel’s Infinity War and Endgame crossovers game modes to Marshmello’s in-game concert, Fortnite’s free-to-play platform continues to serve as an ideal outlet for studios to bring content directly to fans, complete with a semblance of in-person connection. Stay tuned for coverage of the event after the clip has aired.
