‘Resident Evil 3’ Remake Looks Like a Thing

In 2002, Capcom gave us a lavish remake of the original Resident Evil, updating the classic survival horror game for a new generation. Earlier this year, they did the same thing to Resident Evil 2, putting out one of the best games of the year and arguably the greatest remake ever. However, if you’re worried it’s going to take another 17 years for the next Resident Evil remake, it seems that won’t be the case. Recent leaked images all but confirm earlier rumors that the Resident Evil 3 Remake is coming quite soon.

These PlayStation Network images basically give the game away. Resident Evil 3 Remake is coming soon, possibly officially unveiled at the Game Awards. We see the original stars of the game, RE leading lady Jill Valentine and partner Carlos Oliveira, as well as their iconic tyrant zombie nemesis… Nemesis.

So how was Capcom able to crank this out so soon? Especially when they also have a different Resident Evil project in the works in the form of Project: Resistance (now renamed Resident Evil: Resistance in this same leak). Well consider the original Resident Evil 3, originally developed as a quick spinoff. It takes place concurrently with Resident Evil 2 in the zombie-filled Raccoon City on the eve of its destruction. Since Capcom already remade that locale, they can easily recycle the environment and engine. They even nailed the brutal brutish zombie stalking with Mr. X. Just imagine that but with “Starsssssss” and you’ve got next-gen Nemesis.

The original Resident Evil 3 came out about a year and a half after the original Resident Evil 2. And we wouldn’t be shocked if these remakes follow a similar timetable. But now imagine a Resident Evil 4 remake…
