After months of teasing an “early 2020” return, BBC Studios this week revealed the very early arrival of Doctor Who.
A new trailer confirms season 12 will premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 8 p.m. on BBC America.
Showrunner Chris Chibnall kicks things off with two-part special “Spyfall,” featuring guest stars Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry in what looks like a sensational start to a long-awaited series.
Moving forward, the 10-episode adventure slides back into its regularly scheduled Sunday slot. (Though it’s unclear whether the second installment will air on the 5th or 12th of January.)
The latest preview—broadcast just one week after the BBC’s first-look video—offers little in the way of revelations: There are still Cybermen, there are still Judoon, there are still half-human, half-spider Racnosses*.
And there are still three very loyal humans—Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh)—ready to follow the Time Lord to the end of space and time.
Fancy a trip in the box?
Team TARDIS is back in less than a month. In the meantime, refresh your memory of the gang’s latest exploits in our recaps of season 11 finale “The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos” and 2019 New Year’s special “Resolution.”
