Baby Yoda, also known as “the Child” from The Mandalorian, is the internet’s latest obsession. Now, Star Wars fans are urging Apple to turn the cute creature into a smartphone-friendly emoji.
Change.org user Trav B Ryan recently created a petition focused on the Baby Yoda emoji, which asked Apple to add the bundle of joy to its fun keyboard lineup.

“He stole our hearts and now I want him to steal our keyboard space,” Trav B Ryan wrote in the petition. “Your friend shares a pic of her new born baby? Respond with a cute little Baby Yoda emoji to show that you think her little rascal is cute beyond words. You’re sick and your mom texts you ‘do you want some soup?’ Respond back with a cute little Baby Yoda to show her that your thirst for soup is insatiable. Join me into this movement and let your voices be heard. WE WANT BABY YODA EMOJI!!!”
Since Dec. 5, the petition has racked up more than 18,000 signatures from all over the world.
Baby Yoda is having a moment: The cutie made it into Time Magazine’s People of the Year Issue this week. There wasn’t a profile dedicated to the Child, but he was painted in a portrait with Disney CEO Bob Iger, who was named Businessperson of the Year.
“Painting Bob Iger was fun, but of course, like almost the entire universe, being able to paint baby Yoda at a time when he’s blowing up the internet was thrilling,” says artist Tim O’Brien, who has created more than 30 covers for TIME #TIMEPOY https://t.co/jN6wbV6H1Q pic.twitter.com/5MTTl2yq9U

“As soon as those ears popped up from under the blanket, and the eyes, I knew,” Iger recalled from the moment he first watched Baby Yoda on the big screen.
The tiny creature is the core of The Mandalorian, a new Star Wars-themed series that debuted on Disney+ in November. Baby Yoda has warmed up hearts everywhere and came into everyone’s lives just in time for the holiday season.

Apple has not provided comment on the Baby Yoda emoji, but hopefully the small alien will have a place next to burritos, sparkles, and flamingos on smartphone keyboards soon.
